MTE FAQ Technical Support
Can Standard MTE Products be used at Fundamental Frequencies greater than 60 Hz?
Generally: NO!
However, RL reactors are an exception.
RL Reactors, when applied at Load Currents close to the reactor’s Fundamental Current, CANNOT handle frequencies greater than 60 Hz. There are two possible solutions for a higher Frequency application:
1. A custom Reactor may be designed, involving special Engineering Charges, Setup Charges, and extended Lead Times.
2. A much more cost-effective and efficient solution is to recalculate the Inductance and Magnetic Energy Capability required to produce the desired Impedance (usually 5%, unless the Customer or the Drive/Motor Manufacturer INSIST on a different value), and then select a STANDARD reactor closest to those values. The following data must be provided:
2.1 Impedance desired.
2.2 Maximum Fundamental Frequency.
2.3 Maximum Motor Current at the Maximum Fundamental Frequency.
2.4 Voltage at the Maximum Fundamental Frequency.
2.5 Switching (Carrier Frequency).
2.6 Is the application a PWM VFD?
2.6.1 If NOT, is the Harmonic Spectrum comparable to, or less demanding than, PWM VFD?
2.6.2 If more demanding or not sure, please provide the Spectrum Data.
3. Due to a very great variety of combinations of the above parameters, no Charts or Tables exist. However, MTE would be happy to make the selection for you.
